1979 Mercedes-Benz AMG 450SLC 5.0V8 LHD

The base car for this Tribute, was the same model car that was used by AMG, an “026” engined, Mercedes Benz 450SLC 5.0, of which only 1636 units were produced between 1977 and 1980. This car’s VIN# is 107 026 12 000 773 and engine# 117 960 12 000 809.
This race car has also been featured in a local magazine, Classic Car Africa in 2019. This car no longer does any racing duty but is used, by its current owner and Mercedes Benz enthusiast, during track days at Zwartkops.
Front fenders are all fiberglass as well as the “aero” fender flares, yet the original “weight saving” bonnet, doors and boot lid remain. For racing, the car received racing slicks, brakes were upgraded to VariRacing brakes, (also see racing pedal box on driver side - LHD) a bigger aluminum radiator for cooling, while a manual 5 speed gearbox has been added for track use. It still uses its original fuel tank but an additional fuel cell of 40 liters has been added for endurance races giving it a total of 135 liters capacity.
